Additional Mutter Information

This German industrial-metal machine has proven itself to be quite popular, with their engaging, potent brand of electronic-enhanced guitar rock and outlandish stage shows appealing to everyone from young teens to fortysomethings. (Their last studio release, 1998's Sehnsucht, went gold in the U.S.) On their third studio album, Mutter, the sextet augments its propulsive sound with a live string section and a soprano on a few tracks, while offering two mellower tracks to show their soft side. Even if they're not breaking down major barriers with their latest release, the enigmatic Rammstein should still continue pleasing numerous musical insurgents across the globe. --Bryan Reesman

What Customers Say About Mutter:

It fits into the song perfectly without standing out. This song also features acoustic guitar. The final track is the second ballad, Nebel, which brings an amazing album to an amazing close. Even though Adios is a Spanish word, this song is still in German. The second song is Links 2-3-4, which opens with the sound of marching because it is a marching anthem (Links 2-3-4 means Left 2-3-4). Unfortunately, it always reminds me of the dumb movie XXX.

Therefore, my review will focus on the music itself. It contains beautiful singing by Till Lindemann, who has one of the best singing voices I have ever heard. It is a real headbanger. Every song, however, is excellent, even though I don't understand German. Feuer Frei (Open Fire) is a heavy song with unique techno mixed in, including the sound of gunfire.

I once searched the internet for translated lyrics, but I didn't like some of the lyrics for certain songs on Herzeleid and Sehnsucht, so I decided that I didn't want to know the lyrics for Mutter. However, the techno music used on this album is not like that used on earlier songs like Du Hast, Eifersucht, and Du Riechst So Gut. Rein Raus comes next, another headbanger that makes for a great live performance, followed by Adios. On this, their best album, they combine industrial metal with classical and the formula works like a charm. The sixth song, Mutter, is the first of two ballads on the album. The album begins with Mein Herz Brennt, a song that starts out slow with beautiful strings and then erupts into heaviness. It is very dramatic, but still beautiful. It is very heavy but also indescribably beautiful.

Rammstein is an amazing sextet from Germany that has managed to gain popularity here in the states, despite the fact that their vocals are almost always in German. It also contains dramatic strings and has a somewhat sad vibe. Next comes Spieluhr, a moderately heavy song that features a child's voice during the chorus and the sound of a music box playing, followed by Zwitter, my least favorite song on the album. It is both heavy and soft, and features a techno 'solo' if you will. I never get tired of listening to it. This album overall is very unique and original, as well as diverse. Some songs are heavier than others and some contain more techno or more string arrangements and orchestra parts. It contains heavier songs like Links 2-3-4 and Feuer Frei, softer songs like Mutter and Nebel, and songs that are somewhere in between, such as Mein Herz Brennt and Sonne.

The third song is Sonne, which is my favorite song of all time by any artist. Next comes Ich Will, a mid-tempo song with eerie techno and angry vocals including the sound of a shouting crowd, followed by Feuer Frei. Nebel has strings of course, and it also has one of the longest first verses of a song that I have ever heard. Rammstein's album Mutter may be an acquired taste, but it's a taste well worth acquiring.

piece. This is typical Rammstein with much drama, some poetry, excellent rhythm and perfect lyrical sense. With respect to originality and sheer poetic charge, I consider Mutter to be one of the best Rammstein CDs so far. Great dancing music, lots of crowd pleasers on the CD. Rammstein songs tend to repeat themselves with respect to the rhythm and singing; there are3-4 motifs one of which can be identified in almost every single R. As always, these guys are cynical, like they're mocking us again, with them rainy graves, cold moons, demons screaming in the darkness and broken hearts: "Sie kommen zu euch in der NachtDämonen Geister schwarze Feen"or"Der kalte Mond in voller Prachthört die Schreie in der Nachtund kein Engel steigt herabnur der Regen weint am Grab."still, it's great music. And the title song, (Mutter), is powerful.

I have to say, that despite not really knowing any of the lyrics, this CD is still extremely enjoyable. Tired of CDs where the whole thing sounds the same, this one does not have that problem.

For me this will be the highest level of their musical achievement unless and until they impress with something new. I agree with those who say this is the best Rammstein album to date. The sound is fully developed, rich and full in production values, and the songs are good from start to finish with some that are fabulous. Do, though, look up the EMIGRATE album by Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe. Very musical writing and great hooks.

I've always liked rammstein and used to have their rosenrot and reise reise cds but I just recently listened to samples of this one for the first time and immediately purchased the cd. There's about two songs on the cd that I can take or leave but all the other songs I really really like. All other rammstein cds only had maybe two songs on each of them that I liked and I hardly wanted to listen to the rest but this cd is a true gem and definitely worth owning.
